Position Summary:

 

The Technician I, Donor Center, is responsible for ensuring the safety of donors and the compliant collection of plasma following established procedures. Technician I, Donor Center must be capable of interpreting donor screening results in relation to the donor acceptance criteria outlined in company procedures. Responsibilities on the donor phlebotomy floor include the set-up of automated plasmapheresis machines, monitoring of donors throughout the collection process, managing appropriate donor reactions, and completing the disconnection of donors from the automated plasmapheresis machines upon conclusion of the procedure.  The Technician I, Donor Center collects appropriate plasma unit samples while ensuring products are frozen and stored in accordance with ADMA procedures.  The position sorts and organizes plasma units and samples for product shipment and sample testing. Other duties include arranging inventory stored in the freezer to ensure organization and compliance with standard operating procedures. The Technician I, Donor Center, assists with administrative duties to support and maintain compliance with procedures and regulations. As a representative of the organization, the  Technician I, Donor Center consistently delivers professional, courteous, and customer-focused interactions with donors and team members. Strong teamwork, effective communication, and a commitment to continuous learning are essential.

 

Key Duties:

 

  • Maintains the confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Confirms donor identification through multiple critical control points.
  • Teaches the donor to use the self-administered questionnaire and assists as needed.
  • Determines donor suitability by reviewing donor responses.
  • Performs donor arm checks.
  • Performs donor vital sign and weight assessments and properly records results.
  • Defer donors based on standard operating procedure guidance on acceptance and deferral criteria.
  • Explain deferrals and associated time frames to donors.
  • Respects and maintains donor confidentiality regarding donor deferrals.
  • Performs donor total protein readings using a refractometer and records the results in applicable donor center systems.
  • Performs donor hematocrit readings and records the results.
  • Performs quality control of area equipment and enters required information.
  • Confirms all required donor suitability criteria and associated records are complete and accurate before determining donor acceptance.
  • Restocks supplies as necessary or directed.
  • Sets-up and readies the collection device.
  • Collects and labels required samples.
  • Inspect soft goods prior to use to confirm there is no breakage, kinks in the line, contamination, or particles in the solutions.
  • Correctly maintains, handles, and cleans equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Operates the automated collection device as determined in the user manual.

 

Education Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required.
